New Features of SAP IBP 2202: Ten Selected Features

In February Y2022, SAP released the 2202 upgrade of SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP) with numerous new features & many awaited innovations.

1. Shared Write Access in Analytics

This new feature enables the users/user groups to edit the shared Analytics and Dashboards, which helps the users to be much more collaborative when looking at these various metrics. Previously the users were able to only view the shared Analytics or dashboard. The access can be provided to the users in the dialog box while sharing.

2. Lock/Unlock Users and User Groups in Application Jobs

Lock/Unlock user groups in SAP IBP 2202 prevents business users from accessing the SAP Integrated Business Planning for Supply Chain system during maintenance tasks, such as planning area activation and avoids self-locking. Users can be locked/unlocked via scheduling options.

3. Purge Obsolete Forecast Data in Demand

Purge obsolete forecast data in SAP IBP 2202 provides an option to skip or delete the nulls; previously it is resolved by realignment or by disregarding nulls in global parameter and forecast model settings. This helps the user to delete existing forecast data for planning objects for which sales history is no longer available and prevents the overall results from being skewed by obsolete forecasts.

There is a global configuration parameter that is used for using the last four options.

The values are:

4. Enhancement to manage the product life cycle

This new feature in SAP IBP 2202 provides an option to define the Shelf-fill start, Shelf-fill value, and Shelf-fill length in the manual forecast settings of the new product. The shelf-fill must be before the phase-in start date and can define the number of periods during which you want to ensure product availability on the shelf. Once product assignments for a new product are created, the product automatically self-assigns as Active, previously it was inactive.

5. Demand Planning-Enhancement to the manual forecasting in Manage product life cycle app

Parameter check helps the planner to check the manual forecasting settings like base value, trend value, and seasonal length, whether the initial set parameters fit the existing data after the product has launched. It helps the planner to determine which parameter values should be kept and which should be modified by checking the results of parameter checks in the application log. The parameter check can only be executed if a periodicity is chosen for the product.

6. Demand planning- Outlier Multiplier for Demand Sensing with Gradient Boosting

Businesses can now specify an outlier multiplier for the demand sensing with a gradient boosting (full) algorithm in the Manage Forecast Models App. Outliers may skew demand-sensing results if included in the calculations. Demand sensing with gradient boosting uses the boxplot method to detect outliers in the time series. Then it adjusts the detected outliers to the outlier boundary for the learning phase of the demand-sensing process.

7. Introduction of the new planning area for Order Based Planning-SAP7F

A new planning area has been provided for Order-based planning named SAP7F which stands for ‘Flexible’. It allows to customization of master data objects according to business needs. This can only use RTI as the integration tool. SDI cannot be used with the Flexible master data planning area.

8. New Application Job Template: Real-Time Integration (Reconciliation)

In the Application Jobs app, businesses can now use the new application job template Real-Time Integration (Reconciliation) to compare transactional data in an Order Based Planning Area to the data within an SAP ERP system or S/4HANA.

9. SAP IBP Response and Supply - Planning Run

With the new version of SAP IBP 2202, a new application job template has been introduced in order-based planning which will offer one common flexible way to schedule supply planning jobs. This supports supply planning with order confirmation or with allocation creation by a single planning job template.

10. New SAP IBP add-in for Microsoft Excel

With the SAP IBP, add-in for Microsoft Excel version 2202.2.0, SAP provides further APIs to make basic functions of the Excel add-in accessible through Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) coding.

Other Enhancements

  • New supported language – Finnish (Suomi)
  • The minimum required version is 2005.2.0
  • Improved Processing of the Deletion of Single Master Data Records
  • Planning Notes enablement for 40 key figures; earlier was limited to 20 key figures
