Sneak Preview of SAP IBP 2211

by Vishnu Kumar S.

In Q4 2022, SAP released the 2211 upgrade of SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP) with numerous new features & many awaited innovations. The following are our top ten features of SAP IBP 2211:

1. SAP IBP Excel Add-In Support the Use of Microsoft Excel Native Sorting Function

The latest version of SAP IBP Excel Add-In has been introduced which is SAP IBP 2211.2.0.

The following software are prerequisites for installing the latest version-

  1. NET 6 Desktop Runtime, and
  2. Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime

Note - Install the Excel SAP IBP Add-In only after the SAP IBP upgrade.

2. Incorporation of Shelf-Life Data in Order-Based Planning

In the SAP 7F Planning Area, we can now incorporate the minimum remaining shelf-life functionality. Both the Supply planning run and the Deployment run are now enabled for the shelf-life planning. As a master data prerequisite, the Location Product and Location Source data should contain the shelf-life information.

3. Send Email Trigger to the User for Pending Tasks in the Process Management App

With the latest version of SAP IBP, the system can send automatic reminder Emails to users who have a pending task in the Process Management App. With this, the monitoring of the Sales and Operations Planning process in the organization using SAP IBP became easy.

4. Demand Planning

Enhancement in the Analyze Promotions App

Now in the Analyze Promotions App, we can select the default Planning Area. Using the filter for the Planning area, the planner can see the data relevant to the required planning model entity.

When we are navigating from the Excel UI to the web-based planning, the planning area selected in the Excel UI is carried over to the Fiori App.

5. Demand Planning

Signal Impact Analysis by Demand Sensing with Gradient Boosting

With SAP IBP 2211, we can analyze the impact of the input signal/s on the final sensed demand. This can be run on all the input signals, extra signals, and the system-generated signals.

6. Demand Planning

Seasonality Dummy for Multiple Linear Regression and Gradient Boosting of Decision Trees

For the Machine learning algorithms such as MLR and GBDT, Seasonality dummies can be used in forecasting. These are system generated features that can be used to identify special or unusual patterns in historical data.

7. Inventory Optimization

Respecting Min and Maximum Safety Stock

SAP IBP IO will now consider the values of the Min and Max Safety stock in the standard key figures such as IO Minimum Safety Stock and IO Maximum Safety Stock while generating the Recommended Safety Stock. If the calculated Recommended Safety Stock at an upstream location is less than the IO Minimum Safety Stock value, then the safety stock recommendation is increased for upstream locations and decreased for downstream locations. If the calculated Recommended Safety Stock at an upstream location is more than the IO Maximum Safety Stock value, then the safety stock recommendation is decreased for upstream locations and increased for downstream locations.

8. DDMRP

Mass Upload of Buffer Profiles in Manage Master Data

Buffer Profile is the crucial master data in the modelling of DDMRP in any system. The Manage master data app was a user-friendly tool for the mass upload/ change of data and with the latest version of the SAP IBP, the planners can mass upload/change the buffer profiles in the SAP IBP Web UI.

9. Supply Planning

Integration Between SAP IBP and PP/DS

We can use the output of the time series-based supply planning as the input constraint in SAP S/4HANA Advanced Planning (Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS)). The following are the integration mapping between source (SAP IBP) and target (PP/DS)

Source (SAP IBP)Target (PP/DS)
Production Receipts Key-figure-based bucket orders
Transport Receipts Stock Transfer requisitions.

The output of PP/DS can be integrated back to the SAP IBP for the standard key figures.

10. Analytics

New App for Manage Analytics Stories

The new app – Manage Analytics Stories can be used by the planners to create comprehensive analytics overviews which is called as Analytics Stories in SAP IBP. Planners can add widgets, charts, tables, shapes, visualizations, and texts to present and analyze supply chain data. Users can now download the analytics stories to PDF and PPT. User can now navigate to a story page or can route to another system.

Other Enhancements

  • Incorporation of planning calendar key figure using three new key figures
  • The maximum length of the attribute has been increased from 100 to 450
